Finally! Organic Wax
For years, we've been on a mission to make the cleanest burning candles on the market. It was simple to eliminate "regular candle ingredients" that we knew we didn’t want to use -- like petrochemical dyes and synthetic fragrances -- but we have had our sights set on crafting an organic candle for over 15 years.
Candles may seem like unassuming offenders, but in a typical year over 1 billion pounds of wax are used in global candle production and very little of that wax is something worth high-fiving about. Can you imagine replacing petrochemicals and conflict-palm with sustainable, organic ingredients? The impact stretches from the fields to the factories to the families that light a candle at the end of a long day.
In our candle explorations, we have experimented with many interesting organic plant waxes and organic beeswax but kept meeting performance and cost issues that did not translate to a ready-for-primetime candle.
When we met the fine folks at Palm Done Right in 2017, our ideal ingredient checklist was finally satisfied: organic, socially responsible, fair trade, friendly to wildlife and deforestation-free. Now that our consciences were appeased, we put on our tie-dyed lab coats and got to work engineering an organic candle. Getting to know a new wax is a bit like meeting a new plant in herbal studies or tasting a new flavor or food. Observation, interaction, cause, effect -- producing all manner of epic failures and wonderful discoveries.
We will spare you the details, but over the course of 3 years we really got to know Palm Done Right ingredients. We blended them with organic hempseed oil, beeswax and organic cotton wicks. We looked at reformulating existing products and creating new ones…and we ended up doing both!
18-pack votives now feature organic palm from Palm Done Right and are in stock and ready to ship. 100% organic holiday candles will be available in the coming weeks. Everyday Organic candles will be available in January 2021, in exciting new vessels and aromas.
As we sit at this moment in human history, we feel the urgency in looking at how we source and what we source. People are increasingly recognizing the value in organic food, toxin-free cosmetics and conscious supply chains and we think it's time to pull the curtain back on candle ingredients. Everyone deserves the opportunity to know what's inside their candle, how it was made and how it impacts the earth.

If you aren’t afraid of cosmetically imperfect (but perfectly formulated) candles, we’re also offering half-priced votives while supplies last - as a drop-down menu option next to the perfectly perfect regular items. These candles feature the correct wax and essential oil blends but are the result of a learning curve in the cooling and curing process. We’ve got it all figured out now, but our early production batches didn’t meet our visual standards. Once you light them, all will be forgiven!
